Who invented fireworks?

What are/were they used for?

Click on the You Tube link for the School House Rock’s video "Fireworks". Watch and pay close attention to the explanation of the Declaration of Independence. The lyrics are also attached for you.

Click on the You Tube link to listen to the song Firework by Katy Perry.

Do you ever feel like a plastic bag,
drifting through the wind
wanting to start again?
Do you ever feel, feel so paper thin
like a house of cards,
one blow from caving in?

Do you ever feel already buried deep?
6 feet under screams but no one seems to hear a thing
Do you know that there's still a chance for you
'Cause there's a spark in you

You just gotta ignite, the light, and let it shine
Just own the night like the 4th of July

'Cause baby you're a firework
Come on, show 'em what you're worth
Make 'em go "Oh, oh, oh"
As you shoot across the sky-y-y

Baby, you're a firework
Come on, let your colors burst
Make 'em go "Oh, oh, oh"
You're gonna leave 'em all in awe, awe, awe

You don't have to feel like a waste of space
You're original, cannot be replaced
If you only knew what the future holds
After a hurricane comes a rainbow

Maybe your reason why all the doors are closed
So you could open one that leads you to the perfect road
Like a lightning bolt, your heart will glow
And when it's time, you'll know

Boom, boom, boom
Even brighter than the moon, moon, moon
It's always been inside of you, you, you
And now it's time to let it through-ough-ough

Choose two parts of the lyrics from Katy Perry’s song and write about how they can be related to the Revolutionary War, Declaration of Independence, or the colonists? (Hint: I see connections in the italicized/slanted words)

  • Stauffer Farms Movie Made By Students
When we went on our field trip, students used video cameras and digital cameras to document our trip. Ms. Kent, the district technology teacher, came along to help. Then she came to school for 3 days to help the students create a movie from their trip. It turned out amazing and really shows how much the kids learned. Click the following to see the movie. • ESD Practice Writing Assessment This Week
Starting on Monday, my homeroom will be starting a 3-4 day writing assessment. The kids will have 3 choices to write about, and will go through the writing process to complete a piece to the best of their ability at this time. It will be scored by trained teachers throughout the county and returned to our school. It will give us some good data as to where your child is in relation to writing, and how far we need get by the February State 4th Grade Writing Assessment. In order to pass, they need to have a "4" in Ideas/Content, Organization, Sentence Fluency, and Conventions. You can refer to the scoring guides I sent home on index with your child. Please remember to remind them to EDIT any and all work they do to "Get in the Habit"!

  • SMART Goals
Each week our fourth grade team meets to work on a SMART goal for the classroom. In the past we've focused on writing goals, which are rich in data for the teacher, but take longer to score and analyze. Our most recent SMART goal is focused on multiplication fluency. We are working toward quick recall of facts because it is essential for application with higher math concepts. Our class has only been working on passing one fact family at a time. With the new SMART goal, the focus will now be to learn all of the facts together. It will be interesting to see if this increases their fluency. Please practice at home nightly and remember that multiplication facts are an essential skill for fourth graders and for the rest of their lives. Here's an excellent site to print out practice pages for use at home. Multiplication Fact Practice Pages
